Recordings sound much better the second day. The bands were ripping and the tent was packed. A totally different feel from the previous evening.

Solid performance from The Dirty Dozen with a very tight sound and some Mardi Gras flair. A great recording with some very nice audience participation. Honkytonk Homeslice.. well.. was better than last year.

Oh yea the day of Ski Jam that I have been waiting for, Back Door Slam and Tea Leaf Green! The tent was a bit empty at the beginning of the evening then Back Door Slam surprised everyone with some sick blues. Tea Leaf Green fallowed up with some sick ass jams.

After the Amputators on last Saturday I went to see Clutch in Boulder and drove home after with Burnt. Fun time but somewhere I picked up a bug and have been blowing snot all week. It sucks. Today it will be one week that I’ve been ill and I’m sick of it. I know, I know.. I missed the final free summer concert of the series. FYI besides my illness I got the the blowoff from Roberto the manager for Pato. I wasn’t allowed to tape anyway.

Heres a couple tracks from the Amputators at the Steamboat Mountain Theater. I’m pimping these tracks on my podcast because this is the shit in my head for the last week. I wouldn’t listen too often.. given enough booze, it could happen to you.

It seemed everyone in town got a groove on for the performance. I had a great time.

Sam Bush 2007However, I had a few beers and lost my jedi taper edge. I failed to notice some guy that was howling like a banshee on a roller coaster for the last twenty minutes. So he got away with it.. without the traditional duct tape ball chuck and evil look to shut him up. None the less he will now be known to all the listeners of this recording. It’s quite distinct, so if you recognize this howl at another Steamboat Springs live performance, please do your part and thank him from all of us.

I enjoyed this group of guys mainly because they don’t play dead covers or bluegrass like most locals. They instead rock, not giving a shit what you think about them. The main goal of this band is to have fun, and having witnessed The Amputators perform some of there limb ripping metal I can tell you this. They are having some fucking fun. If you get the chance to see them play please do some heavy drinking before you go. I think they play the mountain theater on the 18th at like 6:00pm, quite early for head banging, so get loaded early.
